How to Be a Cottagecore Witch
How to Be a Cottagecore Witch covers cottagecore witchcraft, a biophilic lifestyle, and a simple living lifestyle with The Green Hearth Witch! Cottagecore living evokes images of bucolic countryside settings, flowing dresses, and time spent in nature. With cottagecore witchcraft, you work with the elements of nature and magic!
What I love about cottagecore is that it brings you back to a simpler time. It centers on traditional crafting, such as baking, sewing, and living off the land. With modern-day cottagecore, you can incorporate those simple elements into your daily life!
When I think of cottagecore living, nostalgia and romanticism come to mind! There’s something about the simplicity of the past that makes us want to live it again, in a modern way.
With cottagecore witchcraft, you get the best of both worlds! You can incorporate the magic of nature through herbal spells, natural remedies, and cozy tea witchcraft rituals for a magical life. The cottagecore witchcraft aesthetic makes me think of fairy lights, framed tarot cards, and DIY botanical art frames!
Cottagecore witchery is very much aligned with my belief system. As a green hearth witch, my life revolves around herbs and plants, and the nature-inspired aesthetic. Sustainability and protecting Mother Nature are of great importance to me.
Additionally, it’s important to me to live a life of simplicity, enjoying pastimes such as reading books, spending time in nature, and caring for my plant spirits. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy living in the modern age of technology, and all the creature comforts it brings, but I also feel it’s important to pare things down and live a simple lifestyle.
With cottagecore witchcraft, on the other hand, I get to add magical elements into the mix! This means enchanting nature-inspired items, creating DIY botanical shields, and working with my house spirits to create warm, cozy vibes in the home.
With this brand of witchcraft, you might find me practicing kitchen witchery! The kitchen is the hearth and the heart of the home, where meals are made with love. I transform the traditional art of cooking and baking into pure magick!
I put intention into the herbivore meals I make, turning them into green kitchen witch recipe spells! In House Witchcraft: Witchy Goals For My New Home, I discuss my desire to learn cooking and transform meals into spellwork.
As a house witch, even mundane tasks like cleaning can be magical rituals. I talk to a domestic goddess or the house spirits as I work, and use Florida water to cleanse the spiritual energy of my home.
Therefore, being a cottagecore witch aligns with who I am and what I do! Cottagecore is more than an aesthetic; it’s a way of life. It’s a profound spiritual connection to nature, sustainability, and a simple life.

How to Be a Cottagecore Witch
Being a cottagecore witch means bringing nature into the home! This can be done through plant life, healing gemstones, windowsill herbal gardens, and eating farm-to-table foods whenever possible. But it also means adding magical elements to each of these things!
I find cottagecore is an overlapping combination of green witchcraft, kitchen witchcraft, house witchcraft, and hedge witchcraft all rolled into one. With green hearthcraft, it encompasses them all, including cottagecore witchcraft, and that’s why it feels the closest to the kind of witch I identify with. In truth, it doesn’t matter.
Labels are not a prerequisite to witchcraft, but a way of understanding your craft better! On any given day, I’m one or more of these witchcraft labels, and I’m sure the same will be for you.
In some ways, I feel like I was doing cottagecore witchcraft long before it was a thing! It’s a way of living that reminds us to slow down, count our blessings, and get back to the heart of who we are.
The cottagecore witch aesthetic is one of nature-inspired accessories, like wearable planter spells, natural fabrics, and sewing herbs and tiny gemstones into the pocket of your apron for magical purposes! Some people say it’s like cottagecore after dark, but witchcraft is a gray area. It’s a combination of baneful magic and white witchcraft!
As far as home decor, everything becomes a spell! I have spells hidden behind mirrors, pressed flower art frames made with intention, potted plant spells, and dried flower bouquets made with magic everywhere in the house.
With cottagecore, natural materials work best! I often collect wooden branches, smooth river rocks, and foraged mushrooms from the park to dry out and place around the home. Mushroom witchcraft is one of my favorite aesthetics!
As far as the cottagecore lifestyle goes, I live a simple life for the most part! I like my routines and rituals, spending time in nature, and calming activities for each pagan holiday and season of life. For me, it’s about the little things in life!
To be a cottagecore witch, I recommend finding what works for you! Do you enjoy hiking pretty? Pluck flowers on the nature trail and add them to your hair for a little magic!
Of course, be sure to ask permission from the flower or plant material before harvesting! Leave an offering, or a prayer, and always give thanks.
Are you a homebody who prefers spending time in the garden? Craft garden spells, bury dead animals in the garden (to work with their spirit once they’ve passed), and use fruits and vegetables you’ve grown to make farm-to-table witchcraft meals.
Do you love reading? If you’ve always got your head in a book, you can create spells out of the books you read. I did a spell with a dead spider I found in my home, and with the children’s book Charlotte’s Web for one of my granddaughters!
If you look the right way, you can find magic anywhere with cottagecore witchcraft! It’s in the secret, hidden places and the unlikely spaces where you can find your magical witchcraft practice.
Slow Living Witchcraft
The first tenet of the cottagecore lifestyle is to practice slow living! The art of slow living involves deliberately slowing down and resisting the pressures of the modern age. This practice includes mindfulness, gratitude rituals, and calming activities.
There are times when life gets busy, and there’s nothing you can do about it, but slow living is a reminder to pace yourself. It’s like that adage that Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither were you! It’s about living intentionally.
This can include screen-free activities, such as reading books, knitting, and taking a bubble bath. It can also include decluttering, canceling subscriptions, and practicing minimalism.
Additionally, practicing slower routines, such as yoga, meditation, and walks in nature, can offer many health benefits in a world full of chaos! It permits you to slow down and not go so hard all the time.
Some people might choose to perform a social media detox. Detaching from electronics not only helps you sleep better but also keeps you from constantly comparing yourself to others as you scroll through images of what looks like the perfect lifestyle.
Living a slow-living lifestyle also means choosing quality over quantity, whether that's how many followers you have on Instagram or choosing sustainable clothing over fast fashion. You get to choose how you live and live it in an intentional, meaningful way.
Slow living witchcraft is about connecting with the magic of nature in a thoughtful, meaningful way. This can be done through grounding practices, forest bathing, and practices like gardening, growing vegetables, and keeping houseplants.
We live in a world where things change at a fast pace. With slow-living witchcraft, you can move at a slower pace and create the life you want.
